My brother had dropped off his car at a nearby mechanic to have work done shortly after 10:00 am and he was going to leave it there pretty much for the day.  I was going to pick him up and come over to do some work at his place.  On the way down Dixie I had kind of felt like getting a Banh Mi sandwich at Pho Tai Loi but I wasn't sure if it was open or not.  We popped into Dixie Park mall to see what was open at the food court.  At this point it was barely 10:30 am.

While a bunch of the storefronts were barely open, there were about 3 restaurants in the food court that were open.  After looking at the menu we decided to go to Honey Pepper.  At one time or another I must have tried them.  I've been to this mall a handful of times over the decade.  I decided to go with a number 4 combo which was a chicken wing and fried pork chop with rice while my brother ended up getting the number 4 which was a pepper beef and mushroom with noodles.  Both combos came up to less than 15 dollars after tax.

Of the 3 places open all the catering stackable boxes were already at the nearby tables waiting to get filled.  It wasn't even 10:45 am and many of these party platter orders were getting filled up for take out orders for parties it seemed.  While I'm not usually eating Chinese food before lunch it was a good filling meal since it's practically brunch.

The portion sizes are large but then again they're always large no matter what place you select in the food court.  With the overwhelming selections by number, much of the food looks to be relatively not that different from place to place but they do have some familiarity but some differences as well.  My brother and I basically shared a bit of each of ours and it was a good sized portion for each of us.  The pepper beef and noodles had most of the sauce gather at the bottom but there was a nice helping of meat and mushrooms in it.  My chicken wings were both good sized as well as the 2 small pork chops were still sizzling hot.  The rice was hot (heat, not spice) as well, mind you my dish still had a bit of a spicy hot taste too.

I was stuffed because both take out containers were very generously packed.  We were the first customers of the day because as far as the number you are given upon time of purchase, they give you a small piece of paper with your pick up number and ours fittingly was "number 1".  The food court just wasn't busy yet but I've seen it packed to the point you're struggling to look for a place to sit.  Honey Pepper was a great place to go for early Cantonese brunch.

As courier a problem occurred, when asked for help reached to customer she just passed the buck. "You deal with it" was replied, Uber Eats beware of professionalism.

I didn't order here. But the place next door...the house of pepper. No comment on the food.

I felt like fried rice for lunch. This eatery is located in a food court that is close to my workplace.

I ordered #55, which was yeung chow fried rice. I also got a can of Diet Coke. The woman was eager to take my money. Oddly, that doesn't surprise me!

I'd estimate that roughly ten minutes later, my number was called. I had 25 written on a thin strip of white paper with my beverage.

The fried rice was perfect. It was flavourful, colourful, and filling. It's comfort food for me. I got a spoon, which help when you are shovelling down yummy food.

A Vietnamese woman approached me and asked where I got my food. I pointed to Honey Pepper. She asked me which dish I got. I told her what I had ordered and said that it was good. The woman at the eatery saw the whole thing and pointed out the dish. Sure enough, this woman ordered what I was eating. Perhaps I should get commission or a future discount!

I must have foodie written on my forehead or something. She bought the dish for her daughter. I hope that she likes it as much as I did.
